This is a personal lighting design project. I strived for a design that emphasized one design story while all the other elements were based only on the most essential design elements.

I pondered upon what was most important when designing lighting solutions, and I arrived at the conclusion that this would be the switch.

At the moment we flick a switch, just like how we all become Prometheus at that instance, is this not a moment when we can feel the joy of having created light? Just like I had done before as a young child playing around with a switch to continuously turn ON and OFF a light, this is because the act of flicking a light ON and OFF provides a sense of creation and independent pleasure.

In our childhood, there was a fun switch design where when the light was turned on, part of the switch would be pushed to the other side. Using a stick shaped switch wedged into a cylinder, this was a design element that had taken on a unique form.

This is a very old design form factor that could only be seen in Korea, and I believe that my design pays homage to this switch design which echoes the pleasure derived from the act of flicking a light ON. This was the main lighting design element that had been extracted.

The other elements of lighting were captured and polished into minimalistic elements that could adequately represent these designs in order to further emphasize the switch.

The actual lighting area where the light is emitted was designed using a basic round plate structure that symbolizes light and the sun, and the base took a shape that
symbolizes the most basic of lighting bases, which is the cylinder. The stand was also
designed using the most quintessential structure based on the cylinder, which is the cone shape.

‘Weekend-works’ is a designer group that designs on the weekend. We can’t live without things. In the future, we will draw various ideas about things that surround the life. And, I am presenting the first work as a member of the ‘Weekend-works’. The first is a lighting design, Yes it is.
